Honestly I don't think there's ANY chance that all of them wanted to

he voted without any input from them, which is actually allowed, but

(So glad we're both done with that initial bs, btw. It's far more fun when we get along.)
I will first say that neither of us were part of R20's internal deliberations, and we cannot be certain what went on 'behind closed doors'. Having said
that, you're correct in saying that lying about it would be a pretty big
issue, and also pointless.
I choose to give Bjorn the benefit of the doubt here, though. I have not seen him lie in the past, so I have no reason to suspect it here. But, (as you were quick to point out on Day One) I am very new here! I have not had the chance
to experience the full gamut of every participant's personality.
I begin to wonder if this is, perhaps, a good thing. Surely, not everyone is

In Z1 it's quite easy and straightforward to consider another region within the same zone because up to a high degree it is the same playing field ... culturally, linguistically, historicaly. Yeah yeah yeah Canada, Texas, ...
Move to another zone such as Z2 and every region is a different country or set of countries, most likely there are different languages all over the place, different cultures and they were eachother's foes to the death not really that long ago. It's very diffult to judge what goes on in a different region, even if you display the knowitall-attitude as you do .... and Dan .... and Shaun.... I would even say 'especially' with that knowitall-attitude...
My own region R29 Belgium has Dutch/Flemish as its language and 22km from here (13.7 miles) is the Netherlands, also speaking Dutch and while technically it should be easy, both sides agree that that's already enough to create confusion. So you and those other 2 dudes claim you know what goes on in Scandinavia?
For the record, R20 consists of 3 countries with different languages and cultures .... If you want to get on Bjorn's back because you doubt he polled his region, then try to answer this question ... how many RCs do you think did poll their region one way or the other?
I even know about RCs who did not poll their region and do not vote either ... Plenty reasons to get upset if that's what you intend to become ...

I have always claimed the opposite! (@_@) More than once, I've said 'I don't really know what it's like in Europe.'

done in Z2, as far as I'm aware. Not *our* fault that there's only one

I definitely don't know the answer to that question, and neither do you. I do know that my RC asked me and everyone else in my region for opinions. And
you know the same (or opposite) for *only* yours. I cannot speak for R20 any more than you can.
It's not 'knowitall attitude' if everyone knows it.

I have ZERO doubt that many (most?) RCs did not poll their region and
submitted their vote. Some did, probably. Many don't even vote,
obviously, so therefore wouldn't bother polling their sysops.
The main point that I made earlier was that I think Bjorn *LIED* about
his vote. He said that his R20 sysops *UNANIMOUSLY* voted to *ABSTAIN*
on *ALL* *THREE* candidates.
Now seriously, do you actually believe that claim? Put aside your old crony-ism and the fact that he's your buddy, and give me your HONEST
opinion on that claim. Do you REALLY believe he polled his 20 or so
sysops, and they ALL independently came up with the idea of abstaining

A diversion tactic to shift focus away from the point I was trying

Live a little, Ward! Jeez!

Dan,
Now seriously, do you actually believe that claim?
Absolutely ... Those Swedes, these Finns and the fearsome Dane are a constituency to behold.
Put aside your old crony-ism and the fact that he's your buddy, ...
Bjorn my buddy? Under which flat stone have you been hiding ... after all th names that I called him?
You rwally believe that Khrap?
Do you REALLY believe he polled his 20 or so sysops, ...
Yups ... perhaps you need to clarify what "polling" is ... If an RC writes i sysop-echo "This is happening and this will be my intended vote" and nobody responds while they all are "Live", then that is pretty unanymous to me ...
\%/@rd
Yeah, I was laughing too at you and Bjorn being 'buddies'. Ah well, too off topic here.

This is good! The author of the FIDO programs may be in the FTSC.
But I don't know if it's possible to change my voice? If yes, then I vote "yes"!

The rules do not allow revising your ballot once it is submitted. However, it appears likely that Rob will be easily elected, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

The posted election rules specifically stated that a vote could not be
changed once it was cast.
Seems to me that the OP could/should have done a little research before
he decided he "can't vote either up or down".

I can see an issue here is that the vote is just a Boolean, but someone might prefer the 3rd choice.

Ah, this gentleman knows how to write code to deal with the @CHRS kludge, where the other popular BBS software namely Mystic BBS has no ideas that there could be life outside of cp437 realm.

Ballot.. My bet is that the new term will ever scratch the surface but just update that fakken fta-1003.

Oops... my latest patch to GoldED source code has done the thing and deanonymized my $LANG/$LC_ALL environment variable.
FWIW, my recent tests with "KOI8-R 2" vs "CP866 2" revealed, that Z2:R50 folks are not ready to read any Cyrillic outside of DOS encoding back in 90th which is CP866.
Speaking of which, what does the cp866 crowd think about your "KOI8-R
2"?
Well, if you stay within the true ASCII range, which is <127, you can claim any, and I repeat ANY charset aka @CHRS, including utf-8.
I'm writing in 'CP866 2' now and you are reading me well, just as an example.

Hey Nil!
my latest patch to GoldED source code has done the thing
It could work for me but first you need to get utf-8 working before I'd get excighted about it. I have a couple points that can convert utf-8 to whatever REAL 8-bit character set including koi8-{r|u}. It doesn't scare me.
Z2:R50 folks are not ready to read any Cyrillic outside of DOS
encoding back in 90th which is CP866.

I could live without it. For sure all the binary crap *should* get the heave-ho. As for encoding utf-8 is the way to go but I don't see it happening soon and I fully plan to exploit it as-is (fts-5003.001). As for fts-0001.016, there are very few hubs that actually support it and haven't for a couple decades now. The document they wish to replace it with isn't any better methinks.

I haven't researched it but I'm pretty sure copyrights are being broken in Fidonet at different levels .... that's the anarchistic beauty of it.
Without producing something entirely new or breaking copyrights, advancement is a challenge.
So, in this case the copyright-thing is merely an excuse to not do anything.

Which documents have copyrights belonging to third parties? It should be the ftsc that holds any copyrights. No?

For who? I would hope that any document standing in the way would be properly addressed so that these people have only their lack of knowledge to use as an excuse for doing nothing.

1) The FTSC is not a legal entity, it cannot own anything;
2) Every time someone writes something, there's a copyright on it. I wrote something in this echo, you responded to my copyrighted message without formally asking me permission to quote from it ... violation ...

Hej Ward!
For a complete breakdown of MSGID/REPLY see fts-0009.001. They are seperate lines but are related since in order to create a REPLY a MSGID for the msg one is replying to is critical. There should be no REPLY without a MSGID. The REPLY kludge contained in this reply (without quotes) was obtained from your last msg addressed to me and is traceable back to the original nonreply msg which has a MSGID but no REPLY since it wasn't an actual reply.

These are the MSGID/REPLY kludges from my last three messages to you in this conference.
Date: 23 Mar 24 17:43:07
MSGID: 2:292/854 182d1c21

MSGID: 2:292/854 071a442b
Nothing wrong there, right?
And this is the MSGID/REPLY kludge from your message I am responding to:
Date: 24 Mar 24 00:20:09
MSGID: 2:280/464.113 65ff71b9
Please compare that to what's in the header of this message. Seems purrrfectly OK to me, my cat would say (if I had one).
If there is an issue you need to be more specific because I'm not seeing it. However, if something indeed is missing when it arrives at your system then I suggest the following things:
a) I notice one time you're writing from a node-address and the next time you're writing from a point-address. Buggy configurations?
b) Buggy Linux-software? You're a Linux-guy and I guess my messages here reach you via Wilfred, who is also a Linux-guy ...
Within a few minutes Wilfred will respond with a more in-depth analyses...
Enjoy the week-end,

Hey Ward!
You failed to answer the question which had nothing to do with fts-0009.001 from a technical pov.
If nobody is allowed to quote your MSGs without your permission then is the REPLY part, which is copied from your MSGID not the same as quoting without permission? This is not a technical question.
As for my differing addresses they are both valid and I have access to both in order to test these sorts of ideas, hence the differing configurations. Also they are two independent machines. Also, also have two other machines with their own point addresses off of this node which I can easily alter to suit whatever testing I care to come up with, most of which has nothing to do with fidonet or anything like it. Most of my software is geared towards development (compilers, interpretors, shells, etc). Dealing with people, such as yourself, has always been a weak spot with me.
I look forward to Wilfred's reply.
