It sounded the same. Bloody English...

I've thought that all my life.

In Swedish we have the other way around "problem". Two words that are spelled exactly the same can have a totally different meaning. E.g. the word "tomten". With the same emphasis on the first part, but with an ever so minute difference in acuteness, it can mean Santa Clause (upwards) or the property lot (downwards).

There's many other examples. Very hard for adult people learning Swedish to get right, getting rid of their accent. I guess it's one of the reasons that to some people it sounds like we are singing when we speak.

    Hello Eric,

Obviously "Daniel" cannot be real. He has not even a Real Name (TM)
    or a node number.

    Are you pulling my leg?

Only when I mistake it for a fire hydrant.

I think you're replying to the wrong person.

I have met people with multiple personality disorder.
And trust me when I tell you, they never think they
are anybody else other than who they are. Until
they are somebody else. Without ever realizing who
they were. So how do you know you really are who
    you think you are?

I didn't write the message you quoted, and I rarely read the FIDONEWS echo..

See what I mean? You have absolutely no idea of what
your personality as "Daniel" has done or is doing ...

    Hello mark,

Daniel>> The childlike naivety and intolerance never ceases to amaze.

"Politicians can't manage. All they can do is talk." ~Donald Trump

why are you writing to eric and attempting to associate daniel's words to eric?? eric has nothing to do with the conversation between you and daniel (traechin)... daniel is simply a user on eric's BBS... they are two separate and unique individuals... stop it.

The entity known as "Daniel" did not properly introduce himself
as being anybody other than the sysop associated with the node
number at the bottom of the message. At no time did the entity
known as "Daniel" say or suggest he was anybody other than the
    sysop himself.

If the entity known as "Daniel" wants to be taken seriously,
he/she should at least be truthful in telling us all who he/she
    really is.

Unless he/she is pretending to be another Stephen King, in which
case we should all have reason to be scared, truly scared ...

in here are sysops... plus the huge fact that so many in non-US
locations haven't had users in like two decades which is/was
generally blamed on the cost of local phone calls so they pushed
folks more and more to being point systems and thus operators and
we come full circle on the "all posters are operators" fallacy...

Many BBSes these days are available on the internet, so you don't
have to make a phone call anymore.. ??

correct... this is one reason why there is a bit of a resurgence of BBSes in non-US locations... the main thing i was pointing to is that when there were some, the local call charges did not really allow users to call a BBS and spend (eg) 60 minutes a day online reading messages, playing door games, and transferring files... it was just too expensive so users in fidonet were pushed to being point systems and pulling echomail from the BOSS node which was much more affordable... granted, it didn't allow for door game playing but messages were the big thing... not sure about how they handled uploading files to a BBS... FREQing files is/was just natural as a point if the BOSS node allowed it...

there is the flaw in your mental processes...

    Flaw? What flaw?

the flaw of you thinking everyone here is an operator...

daniel certainly didn't introduce himself as the sysop of that system...

Really? Where is his signature in any of his messages addressed

signatures are not required and they certainly perform *no* introductory task of any kind... you've been around long enough to know this...

His better days are behind him. The man is 74 years old,
probably suffers from early onset dementia due to being heavily
sedated with statin drugs, and likely to keel over at any moment.
His taunts are nothing original anymore, having to rehash the
same old lines time after time, calling his critics by the same
    names he has before.

He is always blaming others for everything that goes wrong,
without ever looking in a mirror to find the real problem.

Oh, well. I've got better things to do than pretend to be POTUS.

What's with this hate obsession of yours?

Real hate is what your POTUS demonstrates every time he opens his mouth. He really, really hate Obama.

Here's a history lesson for you:

Ever since John Adams there's been a gentlemen's agreement, that a POTUS will never criticise his predecessor. For almost two and a half century this has been kept. Until #45 -- but his hatred exceeds all limits imaginable. Even today, after almost four years, he blames his mistakes on Obama.

freedom of speech only extends so far... is doesn't extend to
shouting fire in a movie theater...

Steve Martin thought that yelling "Movie!" in a crowded firehouse

it probably is... unless there's not enough seating in the day room where the movie is being played ;)

    Hello Björn,

Obviously "Daniel" cannot be real. He has not even a Real Name (TM) or a
    node number.

And his location, Digital Distortion and SysOp name Eric Oulashin doesn't sound real.

Can please the real Eric Oulashin of Hillsboro, OR raise your hand.

    Beavers have tails.

    Are you pulling my leg?

Only when I mistake it for a fire hydrant.

I think you're replying to the wrong person. I didn't write the message you quoted, and I rarely read the FIDONEWS echo..

they were trying to draw you out to find out if you are a real person or not because someone took offense(?) with something (political) that one of your users (Daniel) wrote...

so it started with just his use of only his first name instead of his first and last real name in his postings followed by a note that he wasn't listed as the sysop of the BBS he was using...

that's another problem that many in here have glombed onto, too... they think that every poster is the sysop of the board they post from... this because BBS users are a rare commodity these days and most of the posters in here are sysops... plus the huge fact that so many in non-US locations haven't had users in like two decades which is/was generally blamed on the cost of local phone calls so they pushed folks more and more to being point systems and thus operators and we come full circle on the "all posters are operators" fallacy...

so anyway, just another fidonet-style spat that someone stirred up... kinda like what we've seen in years past that many of us had thought was finally over with

Daniel> The childlike naivety and intolerance never ceases to amaze.

"Politicians can't manage. All they can do is talk." ~Donald Trump

why are you writing to eric and attempting to associate daniel's words to eric?? eric has nothing to do with the conversation between you and daniel (traechin)... daniel is simply a user on eric's BBS... they are two separate and unique individuals... stop it.
