    My comment was that I haven't installed Synchronet from scratch and
    can't confirm whether binkit and friends installs "out of the box".

    they do ;)

    JAMNNTPD SERVERS LIST =================================================================

    The Johan Billing JamNNTPd project

    This is a list of known JamNNTPd servers working. They are essentially
    the modern version of Bulletin Board Systems.

    You connect to them using the newsreader of your choice and you don't
    need any other software installed on your computer -- regardless of
    operating system -- but that favourite mail client of yours.

    Even smart phones can handle this, giving you the opportunity to get
    your daily doses of fidonet on the bus, tram or train on the way to
    your job, school or whatever.

    To all of you who never bothered to read any issue of Fidonews.

    This is the modern way to attract new users, without even asking them to search for, download and install a lot of outdated programs from the MS-DOS era decades ago. Any standard installation of either Windows, iOS, linux or whatever will usually do. They don't even have to be nodelisted...

    Synchronet and Mystic both can do FTN all by themselves and are actively supported.

    Without a single program file downloaded and installed?

    Amazing. Kudos if that is true.
