My parents used to hit up the used bread stores in towns about an hour away when they had to go for medical appointments. They did more so
after all of us kids had left home, usually buying a lot of common, sandwich type bread and a good amount of things like rye, semi wheat,
etc. They also bought a lot of doughnuts, coffee cakes, etc and stowed
it all in their freezer. We (Steve and I) never had a bread outlet
nearby, probably wouldn't have shopped there even if we had one.

There used to be a pepperridge used bread and cookie outlet somewhere
that was not close, but was on the way to a sometimes destination. We
would stop there and buy a few things. The cookies did not suffer from
being past sell by date -- and the price was down to what was a
reasonable value. In the grocery store they always seemed overpriced to
    us.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05

    Title: Yogurt and Pumpkin Bread
    Categories: Bread, Machine, Hitachi, D/g
    Yield: 1 servings

    MMMMM-------------------------1 1/2 LOAF------------------------------
3 ts Red Star Active dry yeast
    3 c Bread flour plus 4 Tb
    3 tb Wheat germ
    3 tb Powdered milk
    3 ts Gluten
    3 tb Sugar
    1/2 ts Ground ginger
    3/4 ts Ground cinnamon
    1 1/2 ts Salt
    1 c Pumpkin
    1/3 c Plain yogurt
    1/3 c Water
    1/3 c Raisins
    1/3 c Chopped pecans

This recipe works well in the Hitachi 101. Other machines should make
ingredient adjustments according to their manufacturers suggestions.

Have all ingredients at room temperature. Warm water, pumpkin, and
yogurt in microwave for approx. 60 seconds. Because the pumpkin is
very dense, additional heating may be necessary.

Depending on humidity, an additional teaspoon or so of flour may be
necessary. (check after 5 mins, if dough is too wet, add flour. Then
check again after rest cycle, and kneading begins) If necessary add a
little more flour. This dough is slightly sticky compared to some
    other breads.

Add all ingredients in order recommended by manufacturer. For the
Hitachi add the pecans and raisins about 12 mins into the mixing
cycle. (If I wait until the beeper, they don't get mixed in too well).

Set on mix cycle, and light crust.

This recipe makes a dense, small loaf, with much the consistency of a
bagel, but very good. It is a cross between pumpkin pie and raisin
    bread.

Just saw an article in today's paper about how much food is wasted by
people ditching it after "best buy" dates. Article also said that "use
by" dates have some wiggle room but not a lot for things like dairy but
"best buy" should be more of a suggestion than "the law" some people
think it is. I think I'd buy Pepperidge Farm cookies at an outlet,
especially if they were the chocolate chunk or chocolate mint. (G)

Looks good, and appropriate for the month.
