biodegradable, compostable clamshells ... are becoming quite
    common here.

fats food joints, the biigest - by a long chalk) offernder(s)
will refuse to geek, having their eyes firmlu on the immediate
    bottom line.

And because they watch their bottom line closely they monitor what
the consumer asks for and wants. Which means that they are moving to
recycled goods, recyclable containers and compostable materials, at
least they are in my country.

    Here's an example;

    Tim Hortons Canada

    - 100% Recycled Fibre Napkins
    - Recyclable Paper Sandwich Packaging
    - No more plastic straws
    - Compostable cup liners for paper cups
    - Recyclable cup sleeves; no more double cupping
    - Offering reusable and returnable cups
    - 30% Recycled material cups
    - Wooden stir sticks
    - 100% Recycled fibre takeaway bags
    - Strawless cold beverage lids
    - Recyclable hot beverage lids

    Also:

    - Removed artificial colours, flavours and preservatives
    - Added healthier options
    - Improvement in supply chain standards: ethically sourced coffee,
eliminating deforestation and improving animal welfare, reducing
energy consumption, water use, greenhouse gas emissions and waste.

A&W Canada have taken similar initiatives, especially in the area of
meat quality and animal welfare. Starbucks and McDonalds have taken
notice and are starting to get on the bandwagon too, because it's
turned out to be good for business.

    Cheers

We're seeing a few examples here - but Canuckistan has *always* been
more progressive than the Hew Hess Hay.

    Here's an example;

    Tim Hortons Canada

    - 100% Recycled Fibre Napkins

AFAIK all our fats food napkins are made from absorbent paper - just
like paper towels or bum wipe.

    - Recyclable Paper Sandwich Packaging
    - No more plastic straws
    - Compostable cup liners for paper cups
    - Recyclable cup sleeves; no more double cupping
    - Offering reusable and returnable cups

Hardee's have been doing this for years (sort of) you buy one of their stoneware coffee mugs for a U$1 upcharge over the regular price for a
cuppa .... and get free refills (in that mug) as long as you have and
    bring it with.

    - 30% Recycled material cups
    - Wooden stir sticks
    - 100% Recycled fibre takeaway bags

Very few of our fats food joints use plastic sacks for take-out. Nearly
all standard paper bage. Net necessarily recycled paper but, still, they
are biodegradable and compostable. Not that many do a compost barrel or
    pile. But it's something.

    - Strawless cold beverage lids
    - Recyclable hot beverage lids

    Also:

    Title: Dulce de Mam+|n
    Categories: Five, Fruits, Desserts
    Yield: 8 servings

4 lb Firm, ripe, papaya; or
    - semi-ripe papaya
    3 lb Granulated sugar
    Water

    MMMMM--------------------PICK A FLAVOURING---------------------------
    5 Cloves
    +=OR=+
    1 ts Vanilla essence
    +=OR=+
    1 Stick cinnamon
    +=OR=+
    Zest of 2 limes
    +=OR=+
    Zest of 2 oranges

Peel the papaya under cold water and cut in 6 or 8
    pieces.

Boil a large amount of water in a pot and immerse the
pieces of papaya for 2 minutes.

Drain the pieces of papaya in a colander and rinse with
    cold water.

In a large salad bowl, place the pieces of papaya,
sprinkle with baking soda and cover with cold water. Mix
    well.

    Let stand for 1 hour.

Drain in a colander and rinse thoroughly with cold
    water.

Transfer the content of the salad bowl into a large
    heavy bottom nonstick pot.

Cover the pieces of papaya with water, exceeding the
height of the fruit by about 1".

Place the pot on high heat and add half of the sugar.
    Mix well.

As soon as the boiling starts, cook for 3 minutes. Lower
the heat and cook over low heat for 3 hours.

Remove and let stand for 8 hours.

Put the pot back on the stove on low heat, add the
remaining sugar and the chosen flavor.

Mix by tilting and moving the pot several times.

Cook on low heat for 1 hour.

Be careful not to stir with utensils while cooking. In
order to stir, just tilt the pot.

Let cool and keep the dulce de mam+|n in glass jars by
collecting them very gently with a large spoon to pour
    them into the jars.

you lot have always been more progressive. Our
business worship at the altar of Mammon.

So do ours. Therefore they do listen to what consumers want and as
well, they obey the laws which are drafted by the winning political
party, so once again the general citizenry has some influence.

We would be less likely to have the enabling legislation in place if
the Conservatives had won the last two elections, instead of a
Liberal/New Democratic Party coalition. If you're not familiar with
our third party, the short answer is Bernie Sanders would be in the
    NDP if he moved here.

So I point my finger at your complacent general population, more
than your corporations, many of which are active in Canada.
Multinationals are as good as they have to be in the countries they
operate in. The big three diamond miners here are model corporate
citizens here when it comes to the environment and the treatment of
its workers including Indigenous Aboriginal peoples but have an
    evil reputation elsewhere.

Interesting. I have experienced three types of fried bread (which I
believe to be the same or similar to Bannock). One was the Beaver Tail
in Ottawa, where it was topped with a sort of lemon concoction. Another
was at an Powwow event where it was used to make a taco. And the third
was at the Inner Harbor of Baltimore where it was served with all sorts
    of sweet or savory topings.

The ones you quoted seemed to vary more in how the raw dough was made
    than in the toppings.

    1 c Brown lentils
    6 c Water
    3 Knoor Veg. Cubes
    1/2 sm Onion, diced
    1 Carrot, diced
    1 Rib celery, diced
    1/8 ts Celery seed
    3 tb Dried potato buds*
    1 lg Potato, diced
    2 tb Olive oil
    2 Bay leaves
2 ts Red wine vinegar (Optional)

Mix all ingredients except the vinegar in a soup pot and cook until
the lentils are very soft, about one hour. Stir in vinegar at the

NOTE: Brought soup to boil, turned down and simmered uncovered 45
    min.

If using homemade veg. stock, add salt to taste.

*If thinner soup is desired, omit potato buds, or use lesser amount.

    the problem

    Got any ideas

Given the echo rules I can not say negative things about any foreign politicians, just my own.

Since you hate gin, I'll save my martini variations for Shawn.

But on a different riff, a little while ago I was out of whisky to
make Manhattans and out of daiquiri fixings for my rum and I was too
lazy to go out so I started experimenting with dark spiced rum and
sweet red vermouth. I buy The Kraken, a black spiced rum from
Trinidad and Tobago. It's premium priced but also premium quality.

I didn't have high hopes for the outcome but I discovered that 2
parts rum and 1 part vermouth with a teaspoon of cherry whisky and a
squeeze of lime juice is downright tasty. The addtion of ginger ale
converts this short, strong drink into a lovely highball. Now I make
it both ways on purpose as a regular thing. Now I just need to come
up with a snappy name for it. Something with more zing than rum
    Manhatttan or Cuban martini.
