23 July 1829 - William Austin Burt patented the typographer in 1829,
which makes it America's first typewriter. The model invented by Burt
was destroyed in an 1839 fire at the US patent office.

Although other typewriters had been invented, Burt's was the first
built in America and possibly the first properly built anywhere in
    the world.

29 September 1829 - A CIVILIAN FORCE IS FORMED TO POLICE LONDON'S STREETS:
The Industrial Revolution has made a big city even bigger, and London
needs to beef up its law enforcement. To that end, Robert Peel organizes
the Metropolitan Police near Great Scotland Yard, and it's a decidedly
less military, and more civilian, force that patrols sans firearms.
