From Sean Dennis@1:18/200 to All on Friday, July 01, 2022 17:08:25
    Hello All,

I have moved my BBS back to Maximus/2. It is available via telnet at bbs.outpostbbs.net port 10123.

The BBS is now available via the Web at https://outpostbbs.net/connect.html using fTelnet: no special client required, just a modern HTML 5-capable browser that has JavaScript available (a single line of JavaScript is used as part of fTelnet). If you want to use QWK via an easy transfer method, try the Web setup.

I am still alive though just surprisingly busy. :D

Something to, uhm, spice it up in here:

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

    Title: Cayenne Pepper Wafers
    Categories: Appetizers
    Yield: 72 servings

    1/2 lb Gruyere cheese, grated
1 c Unsalted butter, at room
    Temperature
    1 ts Cayenne pepper
    1 ts Salt
    2 1/2 c Sifted all-purpose flour
1 c Chopped walnuts or pecans.

Heat the oven to 350F. Cream the cheese and butter. Sift
together the cayenne pepper, salt and flour; add gradually to the
butter mixture. Add the chopped nuts and mix well. Divide the dough
in half and shape into logs 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Wrap well and
refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

Line baking sheets with parchment paper. With a sharp knife,
cut the logs into 1/4-inch thick slices. Place the wafers 1 to 2
inches apart on the baking sheets.

Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, until lightly colored. Cool and
    store in an airtight container.

    Makes 6 dozen.

I have moved my BBS back to Maximus/2. It is available via
    telnet at bbs.outpostbbs.net port 10123.

I have been using Maximus for more than a quarter century with no
problems. But I will admit that I don't ask as much of it as you might,
    e.g. having a web presence.

The BBS is now available via the Web at https://outpostbbs.net/connect.html using fTelnet: no
special client required, just a modern HTML 5-capable
browser that has JavaScript available (a single line of
JavaScript is used as part of fTelnet). If you want to use
QWK via an easy transfer method, try the Web setup.

I might mention that neither Microsoft Edge or Chrome allow Java. What
I am now using for a site that needs Java is called Pale Moon.

I am still alive though just surprisingly busy. :D

We all hope that you stay that way on both counts.

    Hi Dale,

I might mention that neither Microsoft Edge or Chrome allow Java. What
I am now using for a site that needs Java is called Pale Moon.

JavaScript is not Java. They share a similar name but are two totally different things. Java is a standalone programming language and JavaScript is a server-side scripting language that the modern Web relies heavily on still though JS is aged a bit. Chrome and Edge, which share nearly 95% of the same underpinnings but a different UI/UX, both work just fine with my BBS' Web client. I have used Chrome since it came out and continue to use it heavily.

fTelnet itself uses HTML 5 to do 99% of its work so it will run in any modern Web browser: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Pale Moon, Vivaldi, Brave...it's all working well.

Fun fact: Chrome, Edge, Vivaldi, and Brave Web browsers are all based on the same open-source Web browser: Chromium.

Fun fact #2: Pale Moon is a rewritten fork of an older version of Firefox. I introduced UDD to it a good while back.

These days, Web browsers are (sadly) so homogeneous that there's very little difference between one and the other.

When I need to find something fast, I use Links2, a text-based Web browser that does have an available graphical mode I can use when needed.

Fun fact #3: except for using fTelnet, my entire outpostbbs.net website was written by me by hand.

I don't use Chrome as such. But I do use Opera, its main variant, quite
a bit. I have Edge and the best thing I can say about it is that it's
    nicer than Outlook Express.

fTelnet itself uses HTML 5 to do 99% of its work so it will run in any modern Web browser: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Pale Moon, Vivaldi, Brave...it's all working well.

And I used it for many years until it began to break consistently on
something I used quite a bit .... I forget now just what it was but I
checked out FireFox again and my former quibble had been handled. So
    it's now my main browser.

These days, Web browsers are (sadly) so homogeneous that there's very little difference between one and the other.

When I need to find something fast, I use Links2, a text-based Web

I really miss Netscape ... which morphed into the Mozilla line of web
    products.

    Yield: 12 Servings

    2 c Sugar
    2/3 c Heavy cream
    1 c Milk
    1/4 c Corn syrup
    1/4 ts Salt
    1/2 ts Vanilla extract
    1 c Pecan meats, broken
    4 oz Semi-sweet chocolate

In heavy sauce pan, combine sugar, cream, syrup, and salt.

Heat until sugar dissolves and the mixture comes to a
boil, stirring constantly. Continue cooking until candy
forms a soft ball in cold water. Remove from heat and add
vanilla and nuts. Beat until candy thickens and loses its
    gloss.

Turn at once into a buttered square or rectangular pan.

Heat chocolate in top of double boiler until partly
melted. Remove from heat and stir rapidly until entirely
melted. Pour chocolate over candy. Cool until firm and cut
    into individual squares.

Title: CHICKEN WITH CHIPPED BEEF AND BACON
    Categories: Entrees, Usenet
    Yield: 4 Servings

    8 Chicken breast halves
    -(4 whole breasts)
    4 oz Chipped beef
    -(1 package)
    8 sl Bacon
    13 oz Mushroom soup
    -concentrate (e.g.
    -1 can Campbell's soup)
    1 c Sour cream

Cut chipped beef into strips. Line the baking pan with them.

Wrap bacon around chicken. Put in pan on top of beef.

Mix soup and sour cream. Pour mixture over chicken. Cover tightly
and refrigerate overnight, or at least several hours. It comes out
better if you do it overnight.

Bake in 275 degree F. oven, uncovered, for three hours.

    NOTES:

    * Succulent and easy chicken -- This recipe makes the most succulent
and juicy chicken I've had. It is very easy to make. The only
drawback is that you have to start the night before you want to serve
it. It would be a good recipe for when you have company, since you
can do most of the work the previous day.

    * A note on ingredients for non-US cooks: "chipped beef" is cooked
spiced beef cut into very thin slices and packaged for sandwiches. A
worthy substitute is roast beef sliced very thin and seasoned
lightly with salt and pepper. A "can of mushroom soup," such as
Campbell's soup, is 1 1/2 cups of double-strength cream soup
concentrate. You can substitute the Knorr Swiss dried mushroom soup
mix (available worldwide) if you make it with a mixture of milk and
water. Use 1/2 of a 70-gram package of soup mix with 1 cup of water
and 1/2 cup of milk. Cook the soup according to package directions,
    then let cool.

    : Difficulty: easy.
: Time: 5 minutes preparation, 1 day waiting, 3 hours cooking.
: Precision: no need to measure.

    See Note
    1 c Shredded cheddar cheese
    (divided)
2 13/16 oz Can French Fried onions

NOTE: Recipe called for canned whole kernel corn - I used frozen corn
set out ahead of time to defrost. Worked fine.

Each brand of instant mashed potatoes has its own formula regarding
milk or water and butter. Follow directions on box.

Heat oven to 325 to 350 degrees. Spray a 1 quart or 1 1/2 quart
    casserole dish with cooking spray.

Follow directions on instant mashed potato box - liquid, etc. Let
stand a minute, then stir in the corn.

Spoon half of the potato mixture into dish. Sprinkle with 1/2 each
    of the cheese and onions.

Top with remaining potatoes, then sprinkle with remaining cheese and
    onions.

Bake 15-20 minutes or until cheese is melted and onions are crisp.

Makes 4 servings. Can easily be doubled - use 3 quart casserole.

    Variation on recipe from Bettycrocker.com

Tested 4/24/11. Nice will make again.

Other possibilities - use frozen green peas.

3/4 c Med diced sweet onion
1/8 ts Crushed red pepper -to taste
2 ea Clove garlic fine mince
    1/8 c Olive oil
    6 tb Dry white wine

    ds Salt to taste
    ds Pepper to taste
    1/2 c Grated Romano cheese

    MMMMM--------------------------OPTIONAL-------------------------------
    Pancetta to taste

NOTE: This dish called for Cavatappi Pasta - about 6 oz. I instead
used 1 1/4 cup macaroni but would cut that back to 1 cup the next
time so there is some juice in the dish.

    Cook pasta and drain.

Saute onions, red pepper, garlic in olive oil until onions are very
soft and translucent. (about 10 minutes)

Add white wine and cook on medium high until wine is have evaporated.
    (about 10 minutes)

Add Pancetta at this point (If using) and stir in tomatoes and cook
until sauce is slightly thickened. (about 10 minutes).

Taste and add salt and pepper to taste.

Mix sauce into cooked pasta, add cheese and mix together.

Signature recipe of Dianne from Requested recipies.blogspot.com

Tested and agree this tastes like the Carrabba's dish. Will do again.
Tasted light and fresh - reheats well in microwave.
