• Angry food rant

From JIM WELLER@1:135/392 to ALL on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 20:54:00
I hate, hate. hate unscrupulous huckstters who con gullible,
naive people with hype and woo to overpay for so-called miracle
    foods and suppliments.

Latest case; Liva raw date sugar. It's powdered, dehydrated dates.
Each 5 ml spoonful contains 4 grams of sugar and 1 gram of gritty,
    nasty fibre. That's it.

Some of its web site cringe:

LIVA Raw Date Sugar, A Fibre Rich, Organic, Non-GMO, Gluten Free,
    Plant-Based Sweetener.

We are all here to raise the earth's vibration, so we can all live
    blissfully!

If you're a health and wellness enthusiast who's passionate about
sharing the latest and greatest sweetness with your audience, apply
to be a LIVA brand ambassador! (Yep they're an MLM scam too.)

A whole food pantry staple for families and those who enjoy
    a healthier lifestyle.

Made of only two key ingredients, raw organic dehydrated dates and
    love.

Some skanky health food store sold this stuff to the spouse of
somebody dieing of pancreatic cancer at $18/lb claiming it could
    help cure them!

Criminals like this should be jailed!

    Cheers

    Jim

They're called marketroids. P. T. Barnum is their patron saint.

And their customers institutionalised for falling for the hype.

There is no known cure for pancreatic cancer.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

    Title: Ma'moul (Date Pastries)
Categories: Pastry, Desserts, Snacks, Fruits, Citrus
    Yield: 30 Servings

    MMMMM--------------------------FILLING-------------------------------
    1 lb Chopped pitted dates
    1/2 c Water
    1/4 c Sugar
    1 ts Almond extract
2 tb Fresh grated orange peel
    1/2 ts Ground cinnamon

    MMMMM---------------------------PASTRY--------------------------------
    1/4 c Sugar
    3 tb Milk
    1 c Crisco® Butter Shortening *
    +=OR=+
    1/4 lb Crisco® Butter Shortening
    - Sticks *
    1 tb Rosewater
    +=OR=+
    1 tb Water
    2 c All-purpose flour
    Powdered sugar

    * If you don't have butter-flavour Crisco shortening at
    hand - substitute real butter.

    FILLING:

COMBINE dates, water, 1/4 cup sugar and almond extract in
small saucepan. Bring to boil over medium-high heat.

REDUCE heat to low. Simmer 4 to 5 minutes, stirring often,
until mixture becomes a thick paste. Stir in orange peel
and cinnamon. Remove from heat. Cool.

    HEAT oven to 300┬║F/150┬║C.

    PASTRY

COMBINE shortening and sugar in bowl of electric mixer.
Beat at medium speed until well blended. Beat in milk
    and rosewater.

BEAT in flour, 1/4 cup at a time, until well blended.
Knead dough in bowl until dough holds together and is
easy to shape. Pinch off walnut-size piece of dough.
Roll into ball. Pinch sides up to form pot shape.

FILL center with level tablespoonful of date filling.
Pinch dough closed; press to seal. Slightly flatten
and smooth top. Place on ungreased baking sheets.

BAKE 15 to 20 minutes or until firm and set. Do not
    allow pastries to brown.

COOL on baking sheets 3 minutes. Transfer to cooling
racks to cool completely. Sprinkle with powdered sugar
    while still warm. Cool completely.

TIP These cookies are traditionally served in Syria
    during the Easter Holiday.

TIP Rosewater is available at Middle Eastern markets.

TIP If using glass baking pans instead of metal ones,
reduce the oven temperature by 25┬║F. Shiny metal pans
reflect heat, so foods are tender with a light brown
crust. Dark metal or enamel pans absorb heat so foods
brown more quickly and develop a crust.

    That's true enough.

We don't need to be told that!

There is no known cure for pancreatic cancer.

If it is caught early enough the pancreas can be removed and one
goes on insulin. Having said that, the survival rate is a mere 8%.

My late sister-in-law had it, was operated on and lost part of her
liver at the same time. She survived that but did succumb to other
cancers a little more than two years later as it had already spread
    prior to the operation.

    Date Sugar [is] Plant-Based

    That's true enough.

We don't need to be told that!

True. It is one of the many statements that deserve a face palm
response. Another is labeling many things as gluten free, e.g. milk,
coke, etc. where it is obvious that they have no gluten and never did.
Nothing comes to mind with respect to labels of fat-free, or sugar-free
-- but I expect that they have similar occurrences, albeit fewer.

This is a sauce that we have used with our peach bread pudding. It
should also work with peach schnapps or moonshine (we bought a jar of
that while on a trip to TN).

    Title: Peach Brandy Sauce
    Categories: Dessert, D/g, Cajun, Sauce
    Yield: 8 Servings

    1/4 c Butter (1 stick, 1/4 lb)
    3/4 c Powdered sugar
    1 Egg yolks
    1/4 c Peach Brandy

Cream butter and sugar over medium heat until all butter is absorbed.
Remove from heat and blend in egg yolks. Pour in brandy gradually to
your own taste, stirring constantly. Sauce will thicken as it cools.

Serve warm over warm bread pudding or other dessert.

NOTE: For a variety of sauces, just substitute your favorite fruit
juice or liqueur to complement your bread pudding.

You're not the target audience. Nor am I. We know that sugar is plant
based. Unlike chemical sweeteners which come out of a test tube or a fractioning still.

Removal of the pancreas is *NOT* a cure. A cure puts the cancer into remission.
