    Good morning,

A new Asian supermarket opened up below us in the old LCBO store.
I've never seen such a selection of meats, everything from crayfish
to turkey neck, chicken feet, all the good stuff!

Not to mention the isles of rice and spices, sauce, etc. They also
serve hot food (My daughter has tried it and said it was quite
good and restaurant quality - even though she had to txt me and ask
me how to eat a shrimp that still had the head attached).

http://www.lucky-supermarket.com Not much of a web page yet, but
they really just opened last week (After the 1 day soft open they
closed again while waiting for the shity of Oshawa to finish the
    red tape).

I found their Facebook Business page. It has a few pictures and
announcements. It looks very promising. You're a lucky guy.

We have a pretty good one here. It is owned by a Vietnamese family
who have a Filipino cashier and they started stocking Halal meats
including lamb and goat as soon as our Moslem population started to
grow after the Somalians arrived (from Toronto). They pack a lot
into 2500 sf. Even a Vietnamese lady from Montreal was impressed
with it when she moved here.

It's pretty nice to have it especially this close to me. :) My
daughter is already on a first name thing with the entire staff. lol

Very good idea. Being in a pretty large city now even the local no
frills has a large halal selection.

Being in a pretty large city now even the local no
frills has a large halal selection.

My supermarket had Easter specials on things like turkeys and hams
just as you would expect but the Co-Op also had a whole bunch of
specials and published an extra flyer to promote them for both Hindu
Holi and Eid al-Fitr which are also spring festivals. I took
advantage and stocked up on snacks like sev, pulses, spices
including saffron, pistachios, dates, figs and even frozen lamb at
    a not too crazy price.

    So now I can make:

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

Title: Raan (Roast Leg of Lamb, Kashmiri Style)
Categories: Pakistani, Lamb, Spice, Dairy, Nuts
    Yield: 10 Servings

    5 lb Leg of lamb
    3 cl Garlic; mashed, and
1 pn Fresh ginger, size of a
    -walnut, minced
    1 ts Salt
    1 ts Turmeric
    1/2 ts Ground cinnamon
    1/2 ts Ground cardamom
    1/2 ts Cayenne
    1/4 ts Ground cloves
    1/2 ts Saffron threads
    3/4 c Yoghurt
    2 tb Blanched almonds
    2 tb Blanched pistachios
    1 tb Honey

Trim all fat from lamb, and, using a sharp knife, make slits all
over the leg. Combine the garlic/ginger paste and the salt with
the cumin, turmeric, cinnamon, cardamom, cayenne, cloves, and
lemon juice to make a paste. If paste seems too thick, add more
lemon juice. Spread the paste over the meat, forcing into each
slit. Soak the saffron threads in hot water for five minutes.

In a blender or food processor put the yoghurt, the blanched nuts
and the saffron threads with their water, and puree. Coat the lamb
with the puree. Drizzle honey over the meat. It is best to
marinate the meat for two days in the refrigerator, or at least
    overnight. Cover loosely.

Preheat oven to 450 F and roast lamb in a covered baking dish (use
foil wrap if necessary) for 1/2 hour. Reduce heat to 325 F and
cook at 25 minutes to the pound, about 1-1/2 hours, until meat is
    tender.

Nice. We were looking at a leg of lamb the other day, but I can't
    justify the $45 price tag.
