A few days ago, a customer visited my shop, and claimed to have lost an earring during the visit. Nothing was spotted on the floor. I suggested they leave me their phone number and I could call if I ever found the earring. That was over a week ago, and I just spotted the earring.. and it WASN'T on the floor! Meanwhile, I had decided to toss away my note with their phone number early on thinking that this was a waste of time. Now I wish I had thought of entering the number into my book database as a kind of note to myself.

The problem with that (for me) is that if I did that with all
my notes, the gallery would be chore to sift through. Ideally
there should be a way to name a photo (for easier S)earch and
lookup), but I don't think that is an option on my Blackberry
nor a Pixel that I am using.

I was "over a week ago".

Besides, I have a couple different places where I might have
tossed the note. One place is right beside my desk, and that
little container gets empitied every 2 days or so. Another
place is in a "gap" behind the counter over a pile of books..

OH! :D Indeed, I did start off "few days ago"! But what I
started with was 3 or 4 sentences old. The latest information
is at the end: "over a week ago"! :D

No rodents. I'd hear them. As a nest, they would be localized
and easy to catch. Fire starter.. Hmmmm. It's not as bad as it
looks. No electricals down there except an audio cable that
feeds a pair of speakers elsewhere.

That particular paper, I know, was white. But I have a habit
of scrunching up unwanted papers or ripping them.

Well.. I still have the earring. I could post its discovery on
my website I suppose. Thx for the idea. I have also found
money, racey photos, marijuana (before it was legal), etc in
    books over the years.

I think I'm going to walk into random bookshops from now on and ask "Could I have that marijuana I left in a book a few weeks ago please?" and see what happens...

If they left contact info with their delivery, I'd make an
attempt to call or email. Some have responded. Others just
show up a bit later and I inform them what I found.

    Good laughs had by all.

I still have a crisp $50-bill unclaimed, but the person may
have changed their phone number, moved, or (in light of covid)
    ..perhaps died.

I have also found lottery tickets too. Dunno when scratch
tickets expire, but after 2 weeks, I decided to check them for
winnings. I got a $25 payout for one group of them. Any
standard printed tickets were already expired - and none seemed
    to be winners anyway.

That won't work in my shop. I usually know who brings me their
stuff, and I have contact info - they eventually expect a
    credit calculated upon the value.

But.. maybe your idea could work at some unsuspecting merchant
in your area! ya never know unless you try. ;)

I used to until I stopped allowing them. . .

I wake up expecting to have a good day every day, & I do!
