Would you consider adding external syslog support to the Windows version?

Sure. What is it?

What is what? Syslog? Windows?
Can Synchronet for Windows send its log data to a syslog server on
another machine, and if not, would you add this feature?
Would you consider adding external syslog support to the Windows versio
Sure. What is it?
Synchronet ntsvcs do), bu t I've seen nothing in the Windows APIs regarding syslog. But you seem to know a ll about this, so please
educate me. --
I'm not aware of any syslog support on Windows (i.e. by Microsoft).

syslog is a log server.. multiple sources (different machines) can send log info to it.

it would seem the request is to learn how syslog shares log information between machines, and implement that functionality in Synchronet.

This sounds more like a function for Windows Remote Management.
Synchronet is throwing its logs out. It's up to Windows where they go.

this level of pedantry is ridiculous.
it was a simple request. obviously i was able to figure out what the request was for. which then was further cemented in plain English by the original author.
which was met with more ..
ffs guys
Hi,
btw, "external syslog" can also be read as "a syslog server on another (=external) machine".
Just to add some pedantry :)

Anna

I'll wait for the requester clarify.

My first instinct is to just say "never mind".
This led me to believe that the *nix version of Synchronet could log to
the LOCAL syslog service and that you were more familiar with syslogging.
I apologize if I assumed too much.
I was asking if you'd consider adding support for sending logs to a
syslog server on a different machine. I run the Windows version of Synchronet, and my syslog server is on a different machine as it
services multiple computers/servers.
I apologize if I assumed too much.

I'm not familiar with use of syslog from Windows applictions/servers/services.
There are quite a number of Windows programs that send messages to
syslog (ie TitanFTP), though many of them are considered "Enterprise" software.
Any program on any platform can send syslog messages to a syslog server.
That's kind of the point of having one, especially in a mixed OS environment. Basic clients are simple to implement, although I've been using 3rd party programming libraries for the last few decades.
Obviously I've said or done something to upset you, so I'll just drop it
and figure out something on my own.

I think this response from you was expectedly snarky:
that I'm more likely to read them. I also backup my puny little BBS
often, thanks.
I would like to have my logs go to my central syslog server PRECISELY so that I'm more likely to read them.

Yeah, I'm aware of what syslog is. I've never heard of "external
syslog" and certainly not in the context of Windows.

I'm no syslog expert, but I believe you can configure a system logger
to forward messages to loggers on other systems.

I have used external syslog in the past, but only Linux - Linux. I'm not aware
of any syslog implementation for Windows, but I could be wrong. :)
