• Setting up Synchronet - Fidonet link - beginners problem

From Michael Mrak@VERT to All on Sunday, April 11, 2021 18:55:50
    Hello everybody!

I have my BBS almost running by now. However, I have a problem with the setup of Fidonet. And I can't figure out what the problem is. I already have my node address 2:31/124 set up and my hub has it set up as well. When I send a netmail to my hub it is obviously already sent.

Fido NetMail sent to areafix @2:313/41

Then I manually start Binkit using sudo ./jsexec binkit -p. I then receive the following feedback in the log:

    Attempting poll for node 2:313/41@fidonet
    JSBinkP/4 callout to 2:313/41@fidonet started
    Connecting to 2:313/41@fidonet at donhelmi.homeip.net:24554
    Peer version: binkd/1.1a-8/OS2
    Will encrypt session.
    Authentication successful: secure
    Receiving file: /sbbs/temp/60733d3e.pkt (0.3KB)
    Received file: /sbbs/temp/60733d3e.pkt (0.3KB)
    Moving '/sbbs/temp/60733d3e.pkt' to '../fido/inbound/60733d3e.pkt'. /sbbs/repo/exec/binkit.js executed in 0.38 seconds

When I then log back into the BBS I get the following message:

SBBSecho: Areaverwaltung sent you NetMail from 2:313/41

But when I want to read the netmail I see nothing:

    E-mail: R
Loading messages ... No E-mail / Inbox messages

Do you have a tip where I should start troubleshooting? I have now searched for several hours without success.

There is also no file in /fido/inbound/

    Kind regards
    Michael

That .pkt is quite small. I wonder if sbbsecho saw it as empty and deleted it? Your sbbsecho.log will tell you what happened with that packet.

I just sent a netmail reply to this message and it is in zone 2 now so I hope you will receive it OK.

You can view all the messages in your mail base with the ;mail sysop command or the smbutil program. It's possible that someone/thing already read and deleted the netmail message.

There is also no file in /fido/inbound/

Once the netmail is imported into the mail base (data/mail.*) it normally would not still exist as a FidoNet packet or .msg file.
