    Hello, Rob.

Before I know Synchronet, I used GAP BBS for a while, which had an
interesting function - you could make an ASCII or ANSI screen to be
seen by a specific user during login, simply naming it with a
certain combination of letters from Name. It was very useful when
you wanted to communicate something important to a specific user.
Is it possible to do something like that on Synchronet?

The file you are talking about in GAP, was stored in the /GAP/MAIN/USERINFO directory, it was made ou of the last name (up to 5 characters), and the letter of the first name. Example, for my name C.G. LEARN, it would be LEARNC or LEARNCG for the graphic version (Color) since gap did not use file exteensions. Another example would be for DARIN MAY, would be MAYD and MAYDG. These files had to be made by the sysop for the particular user, but it came in very handy, as the user was forced to see them during login, and they were deleted after that had been seen.

Sounds like email. Or a telegram. You could use either method. Or do you mean it appears during *every* login for that user?

Sounds exactly like a telegram in Synchronet, except telegrams are much easier to create.

Yeah, the telegram is the modern day version of it. It does the same thing, and it's much easier on the sysop to implement. As a GAP support system, I was just explaining what GAPS system did, so he could compare.

Yea! That's it! I haven't used the GAP in a long time. Thanks for
    reminding me. :-)

I gave up on GAP-BBS because I was unable to send and receive
    netmail, only echomail.

I know Telegram, does the same and works well. But in GAP is
possible to make a ASCII or ANSI full screen. I was wondering if it
    is possible in Sync.

Yup, write to the file data/msgs/####.msg where #### is the user's number 0-padded to 4 digits.

LOL, yeah, feels good talking to an old GAP sysop.

I gave up on GAP-BBS because I was unable to send and receive

Yeah, that was a drawback, but I got around this on my system by using a program called echodor, as it enables me to have netmail, and areafix, and it works well with GAPNET and IREX
