Not a full-on fan, that's my wife - but it's the Bills - the only New York t that actually *plays* in New York ;)

Kapernick started the whole thing about kneeling during the
playing of the national anthem before games, as some sort of
"protest" against unfair treatment of black people. Many people
found (and still do) that to be disrespectful, and a lot of folks
gave up on the NFL (and basketball/NBA, and to some extent
baseball/MLB) because of it.
... All the easy problems have been solved.

Before sporting events it customary for everyone to rise for the playing of our national anthem. Kapernick took this time as an opportunity to protest police brutality by kneeling and "taking a knee" in protest during the ceremony. He did this to get people's attentoin, and sure enough he recieved more than his share of negative attention because it was revered as being disrespectful during a time when most reflect on those who served and died to protect our nation, and celebrate our freedom. The NFL is pretty strict on how athletes promote personal political and charities on the field, and some believe "on the field" includes being on the field creating a distraction during a period of respect.

I know it's customary to stand for the national anthem, but I don't see how it's so disrespectful or terrible for people to take a knee, as some people say. Seems like some people get really offended by people taking a knee, and I don't understand such an extreme reaction.

Well, if it's respectful to stand for the anthem, what would it be
to remain sitting, or to kneel? Yup, that's right - the opposite
of respectful.
Perhaps if you asked a veteran, or a family member of a veteran
killed in action, you'd get an answer that would explain it.
The way I see it, it's disrespectful to take a ceremony or time we use to commemorate or reflect on those who gave their lives to protect our country, and make it into a soapbox to serve their own interests. The NFL has so many rules preventing the "soapbox" to appear regarding non-sanctioned messages, then they let this pass.

I can see that, yes. But if it's a matter of just how you
respect the anthem, I'd think people can respect the anthem
multiple ways.

I know standing is respectful, but I don't remember ever hearing that taking a knee for the anthem is not respectful. I'd think there's more than one way to show respect for something, and maybe I missed
something, but I didn't think that just standing was the only mandated
way to show respect for the anthem.
Been a long time for the Browns. How is this year looking for them?

Part of the problem for many that don't like this is that they
come to (or watch on TV) sporting events because they like
*SPORTING* *EVENTS*. Period. It is not the place to bring your
"cause" to, because it's got TV cameras all over the place (which
is a main reason they do it). A ballgame is a place to get away
from the normal everyday bullshit we are all subjected to.
To refer to above comments, some people come to the church and do not pray at all,
don't react on moments when to knee and when to stand and all this rubbish actions
that for sure catholic church educates you to do.. does it mean behavior is offensi
to the faith and people should be crucified for it?

Now, I think we can agree taking a knee was a clear declaration of political affiliation. Much like singing "Cara Al Sol" in mass. Singing that is not an alternate way of doing anything, it is just a way of declaring yourself a follower of General Franco's Fascism. And it would not fly well among non-fascists.
A not-too-shabby 2-1 so far. They just won against Washington, which honestl could have gone either way, but always nice to see a win. They play Dallas next, so we'll see if they can keep the momentum going.

You know, something similar started happening to tabletop RPG
games, which has ruined a lot of games for me.
You try to have a very serious game about undead robots fighting
alien werevolves and then the manual throws you some political
message in order to ruin your fun.

I keep debating with myself if I should stop watching the NFL. Unfortunatly I love the game too much. I played the game myself

watching very closely this disprespecting our flag and I must say
they have been behaving well. They even stopped a lot of the
"show boating" but they do get penalized for that now. I doubt
Kapernick will ever play in the NFL again. I hope it's a wake up

definelty stop watching the NFL. Let them burn some buildings

Because you STAND during the singing of the National Anthem.

Well, as I said, I haven't watched an NFL game in 4 years... but I
do recall in the last few weeks (opening day?) that they were
still doing it. Either kneeling or returning to the locker room
before the anthem was played. Just as bad, to me. Screw them.
Taking a knee is seen as a form of protest, and even thogh it's protesting police brutality against black people, it was done at that time of the game on purpose. It was done to get attention and stick out during a time poeple will notice it.

Ok.. I'll be more careful. That said the Jets LOST again! They are now 0-3. This is going to be a long season. The Networks force you to watch the local teams so I'm stuck watching the Jets and Giants. Ack!
Im thinking of the Bengles season

I'm a BIG Green Bay Fan. Rogers still amazes me. Last night they moved to 4-0.
He's doing great this year, I don't know if it's LaFeur, or if he has less distractions in his personal life.
Maybe it's a combination of the two. He and LaFleur seem to genuinely like e other.

Surprised at how well The Dallas Cowboys are doing with their
second string QB Cooper Rush. I have always had a soft spot for
them.
The LA Rams are fairly mediocre. I'd be surprised if they made
the playoffs.

Screw the NFL.
It's almost hockey season.
I follow college football more than pro. I did see a piece last night (actually twice) where they were advertising an NFL program and they seemed high on the LA Rams still, which is different than your analysis.
I think Miami was a contender until Tua got hurt... twice. That seemed to take some air out of their sails for sure.
If the Bills can stay healthy they have a great chance. Right now they have a ton of injuries. Fingers Crossed. :)
I am new to US sports being a football (soccer) follower for almost my entire existence. I have suddenly had an odd interest in the NFL over
the last year or so though.
I see ESPN are still high on the Rams for some reason. I don't quite get it as they were outsiders in the playoffs last season and it was
somewhat of a miracle to see them pick up the Super Bowl. I know they're favourites vs Dallas this weekend but I can foresee an upset. I hope Dak isn't playing again, he should take another week off to ensure recovery.
The Eagles are looking sharp obviously, being 4-0, so I wouldn't see
past them either... they should cruise past the Cardinals.
Seems like Tua should take a few more weeks off now as that head injury could have long-term effects on him. I can see why the coach played him, given that he passed all the concussion protocols provided by the NFL
and was signed off by the team doctor. It was just a big horrific seeing him throwing up gang signs after taking a massive clobbering...
If the Bills can stay healthy they have a great chance. Right now they a ton of injuries. Fingers Crossed. :)
I hope so too! If any organisation's players/fans deserve to pick up a Super Bowl trophy, it's the Bills!

Just curious, what NFL teeam you routing for if any?
|10I|02rish_|10M|02onk
Cooper Rush is playing awesome too, so why rush Dak is right!!
Being a Giants fan, I hope not. But you are probably right. I think eagles are a lot better than the Cardinals, but you never know what can happen on any given Sunday!!
Yeah, its never really bothered me seeing guys get banged up with arms and legs, etc... But head injuries are a scary thing. I thought it was scary enough watching Daniel Jones stumble to the sidelines last year after getting clobbered, but seeing Tua's hands like that you sorta knew it was something serious..
Yeah, Wide right still hurts. I feel they have the team this year. If injuries keep them from being that team it would suck. I say this because it's so hard to keep players for long like the old days. I'm afraid that if they don't do it this year it might not happen.

That was not his demeanor in college so that seemed a little off.
