• disroot, anyone?

From Ogg@VERT/CAPCITY2 to All on Thursday, May 19, 2022 08:22:00
A new one I just heard about.. https://disroot.org

The project is based in Amsterdam, was founded by Muppeth and
Antilopa in 2015, it is maintained by volunteers and relies on
    the support of its community.

    Mailbox size limit: 1 GB
    Attachement size limit: 64 MB

    One particular feature..

Delimiters: You can use delimiters (plus sign, "+") in your
email address to create sub-addresses, like
username+whatever@disroot.org, for example for filtering and
tracking spam. Example: david@disroot.org can set up mail
addresses like 'david+bank@disroot.org' that he could give to
his bank. It can be used only to receive emails, not to send
ones. Your emails will always be sent as david@disroot.org.

i would rather user periods because many providers reject the plus sign in email addresses.

well, can you add the period? i'm sure a lot of web forms would reject the plus symbol and octothrope.

i used to use the plus sign with gmail and it would get rejected frequently. ---

No, period is already synonymous with white-space, which is ignored in the "user" portion of Synchronet mail addresses. So yeah, you can be mr.o@yourbbs, but you can't also be mro.bank@yourbbs unless you set up a specific alias. But mro#bank@yourbbs needs not pre-setup.

It COULD be precluded by the restrictions of the mailer you are
using. Works fine in MS Outlook and my TB.

I will send test messages to the addresses you show in your

i just wish we could use periods because that would be the best way.

The (comment) trick works TO my gmail account, but NOT going
out. Gmail is half-baked in that regard. My main email
provider is Globat and/or Netfirms. But they support the
(comment) on the outbound and inbound too.

I have not found much use for the delimeter trick. By the time
the inbound processor strips them out, everything is in one
    mailbox anyway.

A little more digging has solved the mystery. It turns out
that gmail will accept it when you link up to the service using
pop/smtp or imap. The web interface to gmail does not accept
    the (comment) trick.

your method wont be accepted for what i use the delimiters for, though.

Right. (Comment) only seems to benefit the sender as a kind of
quick note. The recipient won't necessary see it unless they
look for it in the headers. But a Claws user told me that they
see the full name(the comment here)@somewhere.com in the
    reader.
