Still catching up - been away from QWK packets for a while now. :-)
I'm a gun person. Some would call me a gun nut, I guess, because
I own more than one and I like to carry one with me. I can't carry
at work, but you can bet it's in the truck and I carry when I'm
not at work.
Because I want to hurt or kill someone? No. It's for protection
ONLY. Mine and my loved ones.
I was also raised to respect guns and treat them like the tools
that they are.

Do you own more than 100? I ask because I'm at the point where I
actually have more guns in my arms room than most gun stores in town.
I like to collect them myself. Also like to shoot them, but don't seem
to find the time to do that as much as I would like. I've got stuff
from .22LR to .50 BMG.

Agreed. There's an internet meme circulating basically a caption that says something along the lines of "When an intruder finally breaks into
a gun owners home" and it shows a person in bed with a menacing grin on their face. I despise that meme. Any serious gun owner realizes that
the use of the firearm to protect person and property is a regrettable last resort and nothing to smile about.

Parents were Marine Corps vets. Mother was able to hit a gallon paint
can at 20 yards with a 4" .357. Mother bought me my first gun (an
Ithaca Model 66 in 20 gauge) when I was 14 years old. I was properly raised to respect firearms and to use them safely and responsibly.
This is an education sadly lacking in the youth of today - and probably
a significant reason why so many of them are involved in mass shooting incidents....

I have talked to people that are scared of people with guns,
and people that are scared of the guns. I respect their
opinion and I respect their right to speak against them. I
also respect MY right to protect myself. :-)

Up here in Canuckistan you require a federal license to own a .177 pellet rifle.

Yeah, I've read about how NOTHING is legal without a special license,
and you have to keep them locked up at home, AND on the way to and
from the range?

Wait til you learn the Spanish way.
In Spain you get a gun license for a specific activity, and
then you license the gun itself for a particular activity.
You can't keep your shotgun under the bar in the tavern you
run because your shotgun is not a self-defense weapon (even
if you are licensed for self-defense gun ownership).
And if you use your shotgun to humanely put down an injured
cow in your village you will get charged for illegal
ownership and posession of a forbidden weapon because using
a weapon for a non licensed purpose is pretty much like
using a weapon without license.

Guns are like deodorants in a rural setting.
Weapons are the same. You might be chilling at a party and somebody
brings bread and cheese. Unfortunately, the guy who brought them forgot
to also bring a knife to slice them. Then somebody pulls a bushcraft
knife from the backpack and suddenly that guy is a fucking murderous monster who has murderous weapons and deserves to be murdered because
he is murderous. You know, the same guy who used to be your best friend ever two minutes ago :-)

Double-licensing? That's interesting. Can the same gun be
licensed for 3 or more different purposes? I suppose the cost
adds up considerably?

Not even if it's in a locked cabinet by regulation?

Wow. Sounds insane. Would your neighbour's snitch on you if you
used a gun for putting down an injured animal? Seems to me
that Spain is full of paranoids, Arlor excepted. :D
