In the segment, they noted "For a family of four, traveling from
Chicago to Seattle...the train and sleeping compartments cost less
than four one way plane tickets. Round trip, it's not quite as cheap
as airline super savers. But, you get to spend 2 days, and 2 nights

I've had absolutely no issue with TSA over the years, whatsoever. Read the rules of what can go in your carry-on bags, and what needs to go under the plane, and you likely won't have any issues.

I think Southwest's policy of choosing your own seat (and not charging money to choose a seat) was popular with some people, but I can see there might be situations where that could lead to not being able to sit together. I feel like airlines try to nickel & dime people these days, and the latest thing seems to be charging money to choose your seat (even if it's not much, such as $20). Years ago, I remember buying airline tickets and being able to choose my seat without being charged extra for that. Airlines also have baggage check fees & luggage weight fees (if your luggage weighs too much) too..

The bus company I use to trip to work used to let you select your seats free of charge and now they are charging for the luxury.

Therefore I go with the seat assigned automatically to me free of charge and then I sit wherever I fancy anyway.

Shit only goes through when people let them.

A few years back i took at 6 hr 40 min bus trip. lots of stops that wasted time. there was maybe 4 people total on the bus. i tried to sleep but i couldn't.
it was not fun, but it was 38 bucks. after that trip i just drove my own car.

Not sure about busses, but these days it is standard practice to overbook flights and to have fewer of them. This ensures as many flights are totally full as possible.

I flew Southwest, and their new plan is to sell all of the middle seats
in the back first then upsell the front, aisle and window seats (for a
charge).

Much less of a chance of getting an empty seat in the middle.

I ended up paying an extra $100 round trip, did get in the first couple
of rows, was in boarding group 1 and got artisanal pretzels, whatever
those are.

considering picking seats for my
