I wanted to join this but missed it! How was the turnout? Hope to join
    the next one.

It went really great - we had over 15 BBS players through the meetup; it was really fun chatting and fragging with people you've been BBSing with for years... just like back in the old days; minus all the modem lag!

Next month we'll be playing DWANGO5 maps, one of the most iconic multiplayer map sets ever release for DOOM 2.

    1st Saturday every month @ 6PM PST / 9PM EST - detailed Zandronum/DoomSeeker install/setup instruction on 2oFB in the DOOM Menu.

The 2oFB .pk3 added a ton of easter eggs into the maps that will be growing next month; DWANGO5 maps are loaded on the server and players can practice all month long!

Hope you can jump in on 03/02/2024!!

Quake 2 was my multiplayer game. We had a CTF clan, Frags 'R' Us and would play Thunderwalker CTF maps. There was me, Big Mel, Ichora and some other kid whose name I can't remember. We were unbeatable. We played tons of matches with several games in each match and lost maybe 2 or 3 games at the most. We were insanely good.

So we're using Zandronum for the DOOM NetPlay - theres another version, I think qZandronum??? - and that one is for Quake maps; the Quake community focuses more on Quake MODS, whereas the DOOM community focuses on retro maps that we all know and love - but if yer into Quake, you might wanna take a peak at qZandronum. (Or maybe I'm misnaming the Zandronum fork... but there is one for Quake that I fired up...)

Come by the DOOM meetup next month; 03/02/2024 - detailed info in the DOOM Menu @ 2oFB... it was a blast!!

    times.

One request? Bigger maps. It's a little frazzling spawning right where

Quake was fun. Since then though, I think the Unreal Tournament seris has been my favorite FPS games. I still played Unreal Tournament 3 up until a few yeaers ago, when I started noticing most of the servers I'd usually play on had pretty much all disappeared. Ironically, I think there are still some servers up for the original Unreal Tournament..

Since then, I've found a free open-source FPS called Xonotic - It's fairly similar in style to Unreal Tournament, and it's available for Windows, Linux, and Mac.

Me and Big Mel had cable modem or something highspeed at the time, Ichora had 64K DSL and the other guy was some amazing HPB.

I remember using Gamespy to find the fastest servers.

The first was the overhead view and 8 bit sound or something like that. I did have a copy of it. I think the next one I played was GTA3 and then Vice City which was probably my favorite since it had the 80's theme.

One of the things I hate about the game is some of the missions to get 100% like do 100 taxi drops, 100 fires. Very mundane. I tend to get those done early before it gets more difficult. It was also a good way to build up a little cash.

I really didn't care for GTA V as much. Maybe I'm not into the profanity as I get older. I do like how it is open world and not quite as linear as the others.

I liked the Quake 1 TW CTF maps. Didn't like Q2 as much, too many maps weren't symetrical so one team often had an advantage.

same here, but the last simcity that came out I ended up getting under macos because for some reason it was free at the time. and it was pretty good.

I always though it would be pretty cool to have a doorgame that is pretty much like simcity or simcity 2000, might even be one out there and I just havent seen it yet.. my faves were simcity 2000, red alert 2, and roller coaster tycoon..

I played 2000 because it would work well on my 386DX40. I didn't pick up
3000 until I had a machine that it could run on (it required Windows). I wanted to pick up 4 but its system requirements at the time were well above whatever I had.

3000 is an upgrade to 2000. Gameplay is a little more complicated, but
there are some things that are a little easier than in 2000.
