    Hello everyone,

Sadly I must relay the news that Paul Quinn passed away on the 25th of March. He was a friend and colleague to many of us and long time Fidonet contributor as NC640 and RC54, he will be missed.

Oh no! How tragic! He's been one of my closest Fido friends for two decades.

    Absolutely devastating. :-(

    Sad indeed.

His system is still running. Although it no longer answers incoming calls, it still delivers mail here. This can become a problem when a new RC54 takes over.

    Cheers, Michiel

I was trying to find a sysop the other day and found out he had passed
on a few years ago. It made me think it might be nice to have a Sysop
Memorial Wall somewhere, we can list the sysop and the BBS they ran.

I'm relatively new to the BBS game so doesn't seem appropriate for me
to do it, maybe someone who knew more of the sysops?

Some years ago I already started something like that as a nodelist addendum, remarkable people, giants in their own right. The ZCs at that time decided against it concluding it was a breach of privacy to which the next of kin might object.

    Just sayin'...

Other than that I do not think the nodelist is the proper place for it. It is depressing to be confronted with such a list when one is not actively looking for it.

Plus that we'd have to include the name of the one who's name must not be mentionded. :(

You are correct, of course, but in a technical machine-readable list, it shouldn't matter as it would only be comment lines.

But I went with the majority ...

It was still connecting here until yesterday afternoon but has finally stopped. [cue bugle call]

We've had some wild weather lately so maybe the relatives weren't able to get to his place any sooner.

    Hi Ward,

I passed on my mobile number to Paul Quinn's family through the funeral
company to pass on our condolences, after more than a week there has not been
a contact so your right, one must respect the privacy of the next of kin.

How can public information be a breech of privacy?

That can be a very private interpretation by an individual for reasons we are not privy to.
