Quoting Shawn Highfield to Ruth Haffly <=-
manwich is waaaaay to sweet
It used to be OK, It's another example of a nasty trend. In the USA
corn farming is heavily subsidised and HFCS is dirt cheap. And of
course we import a lot of food stuffs from there.
Multinational manufacturers sneak it into all kinds of products that
shouldn't have sweeteners at all and use way too much of it in foods
that only need a little. Johnsonville sausages are a prime example
of the former and HP Sauce after Heinz took it over, the latter.
Manwich Sloppy Joe Sauce is made by Conagra and it has three kinds
of sugar in it: Tomato Puree, Water, Tomato Paste, High Fructose
Corn Syrup (more than vinegar), Distilled Vinegar, Corn Syrup, Salt,
Sugar, Carrot Fiber, Dried Green And Red Bell Peppers, Chili Pepper,
Guar Gum, Spices, Xanthan Gum, Dried Garlic, Natural Flavors, Citric
Acid
I'll continue to make my own. I don't buy pre-made pasta sauces either,
just pure tomato sauce for the same reason.
Cheers
Jim
