July 29 1836 - FRANCE HONORS ITS WAR VETERANS WITH A TRIUMPHAL ARCH:
Standing 164 feet tall and 148 feet wide, Paris' Arc de Triomphe, a neoclassical monument to the heroism of Revolutionary and Napoleonic
War veterans, creates a breathtaking sight and will quickly become a
favorite backdrop for struggles and celebrations in the City of Light.

Categories: Beef, Vegetables, Cheese, Breads, Condiments
    Yield: 1 neck filler

    1 tb Mayonnaise
1/2 ts French's "Hearty Deli" Brown
    - Mustard
    1 Sesame seed hamburger bun
    1/4 lb Ground beef
    1 sl American cheese
    2 sl Tomato
    2 Lettuce leaves; chopped
    1/2 tb Ketchup
    2 tb Onion; chopped

In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise and the
    brown mustard. Set aside.

Grill the face of each of the buns on a griddle or
    frying pan over medium heat.

Roll the ground beef into a ball and pat it out until
it's approximately the same diameter as the bun.

Cook the meat on a hot griddle or frying pan for about 5
minutes per side or until it's done. Be sure to lightly
salt and pepper each side of the patty.

Build the burger in the following order, from the
    bottom up:

    ON BOTTOM BUN: ketchup/beef patty/cheese slice/tomato
    slices/lettuce

    ON TOP BUN: mayo/mustard/onions

Slap the top onto the bottom and serve hot.

    Makes one burger.

Tidbits: If you can find thick-sliced pepper bacon in
your supermarket, you can add it to the burger just as
you could at the restaurant chain. Cut one slice in half
after cooking and place the slices next to each other
onto the bottom bun before adding the beef patty.

23 February 1836 - BATTLE OF THE ALAMO BEGINS: Mexican general Santa Ana
leads 1,500 men in a siege against US colonel William Travis' much
smaller Texian force garrisoned behind the walls of the Alamo Mission.
The 13-day siege will end in death for all the Texians and inspire calls
for vengeance in what will prove a turning point in the Texas
    Revolution.

Following a 13-day siege, Mexican troops reclaimed the Alamo Mission
near San Antonio de Béxar (modern-day San Antonio, Texas, United
States), killing most of the occupants. Santa Anna's refusal to take
prisoners during the battle inspired many Texians and Tejanos to join
the Texian Army. Motivated by a desire for revenge, as well as their
written desire to preserve a border open to immigration and the
importation and practice of slavery, the Texians defeated the Mexican
Army at the Battle of San Jacinto, on April 21, 1836, ending the
rebellion in favor of the newly formed Republic of Texas.
