    Subj: Angry food rant

There is no known cure for pancreatic cancer.

If it is caught early enough the pancreas can be removed and one
goes on insulin. Having said that, the survival rate is a mere 8%.

Removal of the pancreas is *NOT* a cure. A cure puts the cancer
    into remission.

Put that way, yeah, there is indeed no cure.

    Subj: cauliflower

    Title: Broccoli-Cauliflower Chowder

That's pretty much my recipe except I don't add carrots.

    Subj: Bargains

Breading/coating are the only legitimate uses for corn flakes in
    my personal estimation.

I'd rather use toasted fine dry bread crumbs but Roslind likes the
cornflake crumb mixes so we do that occasionally too.

    Title: Andy Capp's Chicken Breading/Batter
    2 c Andy Capp's Hot Fries;
    - coarse crushed

Not a familiar brand name here. I had to look that up. It turns out
that it's not sold in Canadian supermarkets. Amazon.ca has it at
$2.99 plus shipping for a 3 oz bag. No way I'm going to pay more
than a buck an ounce for processed starch! My upper limit for chips,
breakfast cereal, cookies and the like is $5 per pound. I generally
make my own. Flour is 50 cents a pound.

My latest home hack: adding vinegar to Bold HP sauce now that Heinz
has wrecked it and adding lemon juice to VH Chinese sweet and sour
sauce which Conagra has wrecked, then combining the two to make a
sauce for grilled pork chops and deep fried or shake & bake oven
    roasted chicken.

    Cheers

    Jim

It's also a fast mover. Unlike breast, lung or colon cancer where the
patient can hang on for years.

I'm pretty much with you. Partly because I don't stock cold cereals.

Amazon US and WallyWorld both come in at about 24c/oz. The only time
they are ever in my home is when the supply at my workplace has reached
its "sell by" date and labelled "manager dispose". Rather than bin them
my store manager allows employees to eat or take them home.

Sounds decent. I've never seen the original HP sauce. Just parsed the recipe(s). But it looks decent. Heinz, ConAgra, et al have a lot to
answer for in effing with decent products to enhance their bottom
    lines by a few pence.

Title: Authentic Homemade HP Brown Sauce
Categories: Sauces, Vegetables, Citrus, Fruits, Herbs
    Yield: 1 Litre

    150 ml Water
    250 ml White wine vinegar
    300 ml Cider vinegar
    2 sm Cans/tubes tomato paste
    4 Apples
    3 sm Red onions
    250 ml Orange juice
    250 ml Apple juice
    1 cl Garlic
    300 ml Jar tamarind
1/4 c Pitted dates; chopped fine
    1/4 c Prunes
    3 tb Black treacle
    3/4 c Apple cider vinegar
    1/2 ts Onion powder
    1/2 ts Whole cloves
    1/2 ts Whole black peppercorns
    1/2 ts Ground cardamom
    1/2 ts Mustard seeds
    3/4 ts Allspice
    1 ts Coarse salt
    1/2 ts Cinnamon powder

Rough chop 4 apples and 3 small red onions.

Fine chop 1 clove of garlic.

In a large pot, add the water, white wine vinegar,
tomato paste, apple juice, orange juice, dates, prunes,
black treacle, tamarind, garlic, apples and red onions.

    Stir to blend.

Over medium heat and covered, bring mixture to a boil.

Reduce heat to a slow simmer and simmer covered for 25
    to 30 minutes.

Using a spice grinder, thoroughly grind cloves, black
peppercorns, cardamom, mustard seed, cayenne, salt, and
    cinnamon and allspice.

After simmering in step #1, use an immersion Blender to
    puree mixture and reduce lumps.

Add ground spice mixture to pot, stir to blend and
simmer (covered) for another 30 - 45 minutes.

Add cider vinegar to pot, stir to blend and return to
    a simmer.

    Simmer until thick.

Put a small amount of water into jars/bottles and heat
until water is steaming either in an oven or in the
microwave, to sterilise the bottles. Pour water out
    before using.

Ladle hot sauce mixture into hot, prepared sealable
    bottles and seal.

    Allow to cool.
