Sometimes that ends up being the best deal. I will probably need more
eye surgery at some point (epiretinal membrane on both eyes) but will
put it off as long as I can.

Fortunately my retinas are "normal for age" and there is no sign of macular degeneration.

Not macular degeneration, just a wrinkling of the retinal membrane. I
was told that the cataract removal could make them worse but it doesn't seem to have. Still, they'll have to go at some point.

Certainly. But my friend Les is in the early stages which put it at the
front of my mind. And my grandmother went effectively blind from it. As
my chief entertainment is reading ... and I don't care for audio books
it's a matter of some concern.

The last one sounds like a keeper. Saw several Hy-Vee trucks when we
went thru the mid west but none after we got into the western states.

Hy-Vee is based in Ankeny, Iowa and is expanding outwards. They have
made the other stupormarkups around here raise their game. If you

Sounds like one I would enjoy checking out, if I saw one.

on-line order a minimum of U$25 worth of items they will pick your
order, bag/box it and load it into your vehicle for you. If you
order U$100 worth delivery to your door is free.

We still do our shopping in person.

I shop in person for meats and produce. But, it's great for staple items
and canned goods. My old legs are not a big fan of big box stores and I'm
too darned proud to use a motorised cart.

Now the only stores not doing some form of that are WallyWorld and the no-frills places like Sav-A-Lot and ALDI.

    Hy-Vee is a sorta-kinda Midwestern Wegmans.

    Sounds well worth exploring.

My house mate shops WallyWorld and Ruler Foods (Krogers no-frills deal)
and thinks he's saving money "big-time". HAH! By watching the sales and
adverts I do as well or better at the high-end, full service places.

    Hi Dave,

Fortunately my retinas are "normal for age" and there is no sign of macular degeneration.

Not macular degeneration, just a wrinkling of the retinal membrane. I
was told that the cataract removal could make them worse but it doesn't seem to have. Still, they'll have to go at some point.

Certainly. But my friend Les is in the early stages which put it at

it. As my chief entertainment is reading ... and I don't care for
audio books it's a matter of some concern.

Understandable why it's on your mind then. I've never tried audio books
but don't think I'd be as satisfied as with a real book.

Maybe you need to try a "ride 'em" cart. They are a help; I used one for
a while after I broke my foot. Main disadvantage was trying to reach
something on upper shelves; you'll need a helper or a grab stick for
    that.

Now the only stores not doing some form of that are WallyWorld and the no-frills places like Sav-A-Lot and ALDI.

We have an Aldi in town but usually, if we need something (mostly non
grocery), we go to Lidl as it's close by, just up the hill a bit from
Wegman's. Steve was thinking of replacing our camper induction cook
plate (from Aldi) but we don't get their flier, do get Lidl. Told him to
start looking at the weekly on line flier from Aldi.

Same as we trust Wegman's house brands over a lot of the lower end
    stores around us.
