Quoting Bill Swisher to Shawn Highfield <=-
I've never heard of corn in chili.
maize, is originally from Central/South America, so it makes
sense / I add dried hominy to my green chili quite often,
instead of potatoes.
Corn and beans were domesticated in Mesoamerica along with tomatoes,
squash, cacao, avocados, vanilla, and chilies.
We can thank South America for potatoes, quinoa and cassava. They
also had avocados, squashes, Aji chilies and tomatoes forever.
I know just one Columbian lady and a Cuban guy. They both said black
beans were THE bean in their countries although they are familiar
with all of them.
And of course beans, corn and chilies go together well in succotash.
