My mom loves the Filet-O-Fish but they're so expensive these
days like everything else at McD's.

True, it's not a cheap place anymore that's for sure.

Prices are going up everywhere but aren't McDonald's and Taco Bell
still the two cheapest fast food restaurants around? I actually have
no idea as I don't eat out often and don't have as many options as
    most oF you do.

For those of you who care I found this guide to the best bargains at
    the cheapest places:

    spoonuniversity.com/lifestyle/fast-food-restaurants-5-dollar-budget

To make something similar at home:

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

    Title: Mcdonald's Filet-O-Fish
    Categories: Copycat, Sandwiches, Fish
    Yield: 2 Sandwiches

    2 tb Mayonnaise
    2 ts Sweet relish
    2 ts Minced onion
    1 pn Salt
    2 Plain hamburger buns
    2 Mrs. Paul's breaded-
    Fish portions (square)
    1 sl American cheese

In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, relish, minced onion,
and salt and set aside. This is your tartar sauce. Lightly grill
the faces of the buns. Cook the fish according to the package
instructions. You can bake the fish, but your sandwich will taste
much more like the original if you fry it in oil. Divide the
tartar sauce and spread it evenly on each of the top buns. Slice
the cheese in half and place a piece on each of the bottom buns.
Place the cooked fish on top of the cheese slice on each sandwich,
and top off the sandwiches with the top buns. Microwave each
sandwich on high for 10 seconds.

Personally I'd add lemon juice and capers to the tartar sauce.
According to the corporate web site McDonald's uses capers.

I'd also skip the cheese and add some lettuce or maybe cabbage.

I would say around here the cheapest are Taco Bell and Burger King.
Mcdonalds is one of the most expensive, right up there with diner's
    now.

Wendy's JBC is still the best burger deal around for $2.60 you've
    had a good lunch!

Same here. BK is advertising a "$5 Burger Meak" with a Whopper Jr., 5-piece chicken nuggets, small fry, and a medium drinkq. That is really not bad at all.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

    Title: Classic Hamburgers
    Categories: Meats, Sandwiches
    Yield: 4 servings

2 lb Boneless chuck steak, well
    Chilled
    1 ds Worcestershire sauce
1 x Freshly ground black pepper
    1 x Unsalted butter (optional)
    1 x Salt to taste

Trim chuck steak of all gristle and as much fat as desired. Try for a
balance of 20 to 25 percent fat. Cut meat into cubes and place cubes
in a food processor. Process until meat is finely chopped. Using a
light touch, combine chopped beef with worcestershire sauce and black
pepper and shape into patties about 3/4 inch thick.

Melt a small amount of unsalted butter in a hot skillet, or skip the
butter and use a non-stick skillet. Make 4 to 6 patties out of the
beef mixture depending on how much fat was removed. Place patties in
the heated pan and cook over medium high heat until browned and
crisp, about 3 minutes. Turn and cook for 1 minute, then reduce heat
to medium-low and cook to desired doneness, about 4 minutes longer
for medium. Sprinkle on salt in the last minute of cooking.

    Variations:

    1) Place a thin slice of Cheddar, Monterey Jack, Swiss or Provolone
cheese over burgers just before removing from the skillet.

    2) Serve hamburger patties on toasted or grilled buns, or on
sections of French or Italian bread, or on toasted English muffins.

    3) After removing burgers from skillet, add a pat of butter to the
skillet along with diced onion and peppers and sliced mushrooms.
Saute until crisp-tender and either serve over burgers as is, or add
a few tablespoons red wine to the skillet and cook, stirring, until
    the alcohol has evaporated.

    4) Garnish burgers with fresh lettuces, spinach or other greens,
sliced tomatoes, sliced cucumbers, sliced onions, sprouts, hot
pickled peppers, pickles, mustard, ketchup, salsa, pizza sauce,
spiced mayonnaise, hot sauce, soy sauce or barbecue sauce.

Not quite - it's a *double* Whopper, Jr. and just 4 McNuggets. From
their flyer: "For your $5, you get a Double Whopper Jr., a small order
of fries, a four-piece order of chicken nuggets, and a small drink. The
Double Whopper Jr. has two Whopper Jr. beef patties, lettuce, tomato,
ketchup, mayo, onion, and pickles stacked into a toasted sesame seed bun."

You're on yur own for cheese and/or bacon. Bv)= But, it sounds like
a deal. And the pooches like chicken. Bv)=

Thanks for the correction. It's still a good deal though not one I'll be partaking of anytime soon unless I throw everything in my new blender.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

    Title: Homemade Herbed Cheese
    Categories: Cheese/eggs, Dips, Harned 1994, Herb/spice, Spreads
    Yield: 1 Batch

    1/2 c Packed fresh herbs*
    2 Garlic cloves; peeled
    -- coarsely chopped
8 oz Cream cheese; at room temp.
    1/2 c Unsalted butter
    -- at room temperature
    Salt and pepper; to taste
1 Squeeze of fresh lemon juice

*Choose a combination that includes chervil, chives, parsley,
    tarragon, marjoram or basil.

Pick over herbs, removing any coarse stems; wash well and pat dry.
Place herbs and garlic pieces in a food processor fitted with a steel
knife. Process several seconds until minced. Add cream cheese,
butter, salt, pepper and lemon juice; process until very smooth.
    Taste and adjust seasonings.

Spoon into a crock or small bowl; cover and chill to develop flavors.
Serve at room temperature as a spread for crackers or as a filling
    for raw vegetables.

Note: The food processor yields quick results but, if ingredients are
at room temperature, this cheese can be blended by hand just as well.

To vary this and for fewer calories, substitute 2 cups of low-fat
cottage cheese for the cream cheese and butter.

    Yield: About 2 cups.

Have faith in the VA (yeah, right) you'll soon have a set of George
Washingtons and set sail on the culinary adventure seas.

Wendy's has a similar $5 deal called the biggie bag - which contains
Fries, 4 chicken nuggets, a small beverage, and a choice of a Dave's
Double Stack, Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger, or Cripsy Chicken BLT.

I had that for supper last night. The pooches like the nuggets. Bv)=
